Pharmaceutical Jobs Offer Good Pay

10:14 pm by admin. Filed under: Pharmacy Courses

Pharmaceutical jobs belong in the healthcare industry, a fast growing industry. An aging population and new developments in diagnosis and treatment (leading to increased use of medication) are the main factors leading this growth.

The pharmaceutical industry itself is a big part of this growth story. In addition to bringing out a steady stream of innovative products and equipment, the industry also gets these to the notice of healthcare professionals through their network of medical representatives.

We start our discussion of pharmaceutical jobs with a look at the medical representative.

The Medical Representative

The medical representative sells by educating doctors about the latest in treatment. Good medical representatives can save many hours of a doctor’s time (spent otherwise for keeping up with developments in the field of treatment). This is an essential task as new medications with greater effectiveness are constantly being developed.

The representative explains to the doctor how the medications work, and how they are an improvement over existing treatments. The representative receives intensive training that equips the person with product knowledge and sales skills. They also accompany experienced representatives to learn effective practices.

Thereafter, they have to fix appointments with GPs, get to the GPs during the short time they are free, explain things clearly in the little time available and meet their targets regarding sales calls and sales.

The Association of British Pharmaceutical Industry – ABPI – conducts exams, and has also laid down a code of conduct. They act as the governing body of the industry and attend to complaints about false claims about medicines, and any malpractices or misbehavior on the part of representatives and others in the field.

Product Managers

A product manager is a marketing specialist who plans the marketing campaign for a product and keeps track of the campaign results. Product managers decide how to make convincing presentations with clinical evidence and other materials. They arrange to produce the sales literature for a product and continuously monitor the impact the literature, and the campaign in general, are producing.

Sales Managers

Sales managers, former medical representatives themselves, lead a team of medical representatives. It is their responsibility to train and motivate the representatives for maximum effectiveness.

Regulatory Affairs

The pharmaceutical industry is governed by numerous regulations. Their sales campaigns need to be approved – from permission to sell a drug for a particular use to what they can include in their sales literature. A great deal of procedures and processes are involved in getting needed approvals. Going after these formalities has become a full time role for persons with an eye for detail and familiarity with legalese.

Other Pharmaceutical Jobs

The emphasis above has been on sales related pharmaceutical jobs. Actually, pharmaceutical companies need pharmacists, clinical researchers, HR managers, and other technical and non-technical persons to run their operations.

Pharmaceutical companies spend heavy sums to discover new drugs, and then to conduct clinical trials in a phased manner till the drug is finally approved by the Federal Drug Administration for marketing.

People with required training and experience are needed to attend to all these operational aspects and many pharmaceutical jobs are available in non-sales areas. Both sales and non-sales people can expect good pay in the pharmaceutical industry.

Get Accurate Career Information

5:44 am by admin. Filed under: Pharmacy Assistant Jobs

If I have learned anything in my thirty years of being a career counselor, it is that spending your life doing a career that you do not love is a waste of time. In fact, I’d go so far as to say that choosing the wrong career for you could be one of the most serious mistakes a person can ever make. Getting accurate career information is hugely important because of this.

Think about it. You will spend thirty or more years of your life working full time. That is a really long time to spend doing something that you do not absolutely love. The thing I hate seeing most is people who feel like they are tied in to a profession that they hate. I became a career counselor to help solve this problem. I love working with college students giving them proper career information that helps them to make informed decisions about career choices.

One of the most important ways to enter a career wisely is to inform yourself with accurate career information. I cannot stress enough how important it is that you discover the truth about any profession you are thinking of entering. The worst thing you can do is enter a career blindly. So take time and find ways to get career information about the careers you are considering.

One of the quickest ways to get career information is to make a meeting with a career counselor like myself. Meet with someone who is knowledgeable about many careers and who will help you find a career that fits well with who you are and with what you value. Whatever career you choose, it must be connected to something you value. It is a terrible thing to get up for work in the morning and realize that you could care less about your job and that it has no real value to the rest of the world.

You can also find great career information by doing an internship or by visiting different careers that interest you. For example, if becoming a teacher interests you, try helping out in a teacher’s classroom for a few weeks and see if it is something you’d really enjoy. You will be so glad that you took time to try something before you made a commitment to it. After all, you cannot afford to keep changing your mind about careers and end up unhappy in the process.

Get career information and be one step closer to having a career that excites you and that fits your dreams and values. There is nothing better than that.

Ready For A Career Change? Travel The Microsoft Certification Route

Ready For A Career Change? Travel The Microsoft Certification Route

Are you dissatisfied with your job? Do you want to find a new one or at least make a move to another department within your company? Do you need certifications in MCSE, MCP and any of those other abbreviations? You need to sit down and decide what career path you wish to take if you want to go the Microsoft Certification route.

First of all, do you have any prior experience in the business world? If so, no matter what you decide to do, whether it is MCSE training or MCP training or anything else, you will be ahead of others with no prior professional expertise. However, if you choose to make a career change that is a complete 180 degrees from what you are doing now, you will have some trouble finding gainful employment without some concrete experience.

For instance, if you are an Administrative Assistant and decide to go for a Microsoft Certified System Engineer, better known as an MCSE, you need to have some practical experience (the basic requirement is about a year of previous experience) under your belt before even starting your MCSE training. How could you go about doing that? You have several options. Find a mentor. Maybe another person within your company who has an MCSE could give you pointers and some on-site knowledge into his job. Volunteering through a nonprofit or some other community organization could net you some valuable experience. Serving as an intern, whether paid or unpaid, is another option.

A volunteer position or an internship also is beneficial for those people with a fresh Microsoft certification but no practical, hands-on experience. Practically every nonprofit organization or community group has computers. Some of them are small groups and others have computer labs (perhaps state-run job placement places) with no budget to hire full-time staff. You have got to think outside the box for ways to gain that practical experience.

Networking mixers or social time is another great idea. You can mingle with professionals in the field you are trying to break into and find out about their internship opportunities. It is the perfect venue in which to sell or market yourself. Check out your local Chamber of Commerce for any local trade organizations in the prospective field as a starting point in this networking endeavor. Many times, you can find out some priceless information about the ins and outs of your potential area of certification. Learning from the experts could be an eye opening experience for you. Heck, you could even change your mind from braving those MCSE boot camps and the seven tests for MCSE exams. Isnt it better to gain that insight before you spend the time and money?

Once you have completed your certification, whether it is navigating through MCP courses or any other Microsoft certification, be prepared to start from scratch in your new endeavor. Just remember, anything having to do with technology will change again in a year or two, so you have to keep up with new trends and that means continued instruction. As long as you travel the Microsoft route, youll be successful.

Career Outlook For Virtual Assistants

8:32 pm by admin. Filed under: Pharmacy Jobs

Government career outlook predictions aren’t developed yet for the Virtual Assistance industry, whether that’s because it’s a relatively new field or because the tasks done by VAs are as varied as the VAs themselves remains to be seen. One has to examine similar fields and skill-sets to see how VAs will fare in the years to come. By looking at these similar fields, you can see that the growth outlook for Virtual Assistance is above average. The question of “Will this job still be around in 20 years?” can be answered by looking at the services that a specific VA is offering and closely-related “traditional” employment fields.

The most important thing to remember, though, is to keep current with technology and software that can progress your business. If you only know outdated technology, then you and your business are outdated and your clients may go elsewhere for service. Keep adding to your services and learn everything you can about your niche market and what they currently need.

With many businesses restructuring and downsizing (getting rid of middle managers), companies are utilizing more and more secretarial and administrative support staff to take over those duties. If you offer administrative support as a VA, and market yourself as an off-site solution to those downsizing companies, your “job security” looks pretty good. One thing to keep in mind, though, is that you will have competition from on-site employees for these positions.

If you offer more specialized services than administrative support, you have different chances for sustaining an ongoing career. Here are two examples:

If you offer Public Relations (PR)services, your occupational outlook is rosy. With so many different types of organizations — such as businesses, nonprofits, universities, hospitals and more – looking for media specialists and PR specialists to do more than just “tell their story.” Creativity, initiative, good judgment and the ability to communicate effectively are some of the skills necessary to succeed in this job. There’s lots of competition in this role, but employment/contracts for PR specialists is expected to grow faster than average, according to the Occupational Outlook Handbook.

If you offer Desktop Publishing services, your occupational outlook is also great. Many companies are beginning to outsource these services, as opposed to having in-house staff. With experience and/or a degree in graphic design or a related field, desktop publishers have a variety of different organizations to market themselves to. VAs offer an affordable alternative to hiring a graphic design firm.

Whether you specialize in desktop publishing and graphic design or public relations or another niche specialty, it’s clear that Virtual Assistance is catching on and the VAs who are out there aren’t going anywhere. With more and more employers and companies looking to outsource projects turning to offsite personnel to fulfill these needs, the view of using “virtual” workers is changing. It’s no longer as common to hear objections such as “How do I know you’ll really be working?” when proposing using a VA to someone who never has before. Many people have heard of VAs now or know someone who uses theirs. In most cases, once someone has a VA on their team, they don’t turn back to in-house staff to fulfill those duties.

To check out similar fields’ occupational outlooks, visit the Occupational Outlook Handbook (2006-07 edition) put out by the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics at http://www.bls.gov.

Pharmaceutical Copywriter? Maybe?

6:00 pm by admin. Filed under: Pharmacy Courses

So you are just getting out of college. You want to earn your living as a writer, and you decide on a career as an advertising copywriter. Naturally everyone wants to write the next great sneaker ad, or be the brainchild of the newest 20-year Vodka campaign, right? Not so fast.

While a career in consumer advertising has always been the benchmark of the industry, more and more young copywriters are finding their way in the growing world of pharmaceutical advertising. So why would someone want to write about a depression drug rather than a soft drink?

Here are three major reasons for this trend:

Stability:

With Job security as low as it has been since the crash of 1929, young creatives in general consumer advertising on Madison Avenue are finding themselves out of work an alarming rate. Pharmaceutical advertising is generally a bit more stable, as the market is simply smaller.

Money:

Initially, the salaries earned by consumer and healthcare copywriters is roughly about the same. That is to say, not very much. However, successful healthcare writers see larger salary increases and title promotions sooner than their consumer counterparts.

Sense of Importance:

At first glance the content, regulations and demographic would imply that pharmaceutical advertising wouldnt allow for as much creativity as a general consumer advertising. And while your creative box may be a bit smaller in pharmaceutical advertising, the work does allow and lend itself to a more dramatic and strategic end result. Furthermore, many creatives in pharmaceutical advertising love the fact that the message matters, and feel that their work truly is important.

So while writing the dream sequence spot for that new video game is fun, at the end of the day youre simply marketing a video game.

Pharmaceutical writers are asked to really devour the product; its chemistry and most importantly how the condition for which the pharmaceutical product is indicated affects patients. In many cases, writers are asked to interview and meet patients to talk about their condition(s). It has been debated ad nauseam if medication is truly the best therapy. And while Im smart enough to not opine on that topic, there is no arguing that awareness and education for both patients and healthcare professionals are necessary.

In any case, we can be certain that medicine has historically done more for society than any sneaker, soft drink or video game ever has.

Five Quick Ways to Save on Prescription Drugs

9:59 am by admin. Filed under: Pharmacy Assistant Jobs

Prescription prices are skyrocketing out of control. The average person is now spending over $250 a month at the pharmacy counter. With the new Medicare Part D plan, the government is stepping in to try and alleviate some of these expenses. The plan is riddled with problems, delays, and confusion. Taking control of your own healthcare is truly the only way to lower your costs. What follows is a quick list of five ways to lower your costs.

Shopping around to various pharmacies can save you a few dollars here and there. Consider your time, gas, and effort when making the decision to drive out of the way to save a couple of dollars. Is it really worth five dollars to drive an extra 15 miles round trip every month? Some pharmacies will match a competitors price. Ask up front is they will match, then find the lowest price. Call them back, give them the lowest price and where you found it. They should then reduce their price for you.

Getting a generic is always the smart thing to do. Some people are apprehensive about generic medication but it must contain the same active ingredients as the more expensive brand. The difference is with the fillers or dyes used in the manufacturing. There are rare allergies to some of these fillers and dyes, but they occur is so infrequently, there is no need to worry. Brand name drugs are so expensive because the manufacturers must recoup the money spent on research and development before the patent runs out. When the patent does expire, any manufacturer who can prove to the FDA that they can make a similar product, can produce it and charge what they feel is necessary. This brings out competition and lower prices.

Splitting tablets is common in the nursing home and hospital setting. These institutions know how to lower costs. You can do the same by asking your doctor to double your dose and cut it in half. Most medications do not double price when they double strength. In most cases, this will save you about 40%. Be sure your medication can be cut. Often times, drugs are released slowly in the body through a mechanism in the tablet. This mechanism cannot be cut or the medication will be released at one time. If you have insurance with a set co-pay, this technique will not work. You will pay the same co-pay regardless of the quantity of pills you buy.

A few popular prescription medications are available over-the-counter (OTC) in lower doses. For example, Prilosec recently became available OTC. The cost for the OTC version is much less than the prescription and you do not need to see your doctor, an added expense in time and money. Motrin, Zantac, and Pepcid are other examples of medication available in both prescription and OTC strengths.

Going online to find a pharmacy can be worthwhile. These companies will mail you your prescription at a lower price than you can usually get them at the retail level. They can do this because they are set up in a very efficient warehouse setting with little overhead. When shopping online, you must be cautions. The FDA has now determined that almost half of the seized drugs that were supposed to be from Canadian pharmacies, were from some other country. When looking for an online pharmacy, by sure they display the VIPPS symbol. This signifies that they are following all the rules and regulations set forth by the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy. This is the same governing body that regulates traditional pharmacies.

Medication is essential for the health and wellbeing of many people. Anything this important is not going to be cheap. By using one or all of these quick tips, you will see your costs reduced at the pharmacy.

Purchasing Medicines and Medical Products Online

12:57 pm by admin. Filed under: Apothecary Jobs

When we go to buy clothes, groceries, household items etc. we tend to look for bargains and discounts. But when it comes to medications, we have a little disappointed as they come at a fixed price only and we never ever find any discount on medicines. We are simply ready to pay whatever be the price that is mentioned on the product pack, and we have no idea that we can get even medications also for a fraction of the price. A question arises how and from where?

In case of medication what we do is that we take the prescription and go to the nearest druggist. Just visiting store doesnt mean you would get your medicine (cheap soma, cheap carisoma, cheap acomplia, sildenafil citrates, diflucan topamax) at once. We might have to either wait in a long line or wait for the crowd to reduce, before we actually hand over the prescription to the chemist. After this also, we have to wait until the pharmacy assistant searches for the medicine in the store. Even if the drug is available, the pharmacist is too busy to share information on how to use it. So, is there a better way to buy drugs?
Yes. Even medicines are bought online these days. Buying from online retail pharmacy is much cheaper and simpler. It also maintains your privacy as you dont have to interact face to face to buy your medicines. We can substantially reduce our monthly medical bills by purchasing drugs online. You can buy almost any medicine on internet. You can buy soma, can buy carisoma, can buy acomplia or sildenafil citrates etc. People buy soma because Soma helps to ease the muscles pain and tension caused by exertion and joint wrenches. You can easily find cheap soma online. Acomplia online actually helps in reducing weight as well as it reduces your craving for nicotine too. So, if you buy acomplia you start eating less and give up smoking at the same time. The easiest and the best way to best way to buy Acomplia are to buy Acomplia online through online pharmacies propecia or online retail pharmacy.
You can even get cheap Carisoma with no prescription online. You can simply buy Carisoma online in the dose that you require and save yourself from the embarrassment of buying Carisoma at your local pharmacy.
Dont worry for the quality. There is no difference in quality, as these drugs such as sildenafil citrates, diflucan topamax or any drug, go through the same production checks for quality and efficacy as the patented drugs.

Legitimate online retail pharmacy websites on the Internet provide consumers with a convenient, private, way to obtain needed medications (cheap soma, cheap carisoma, cheap acomplia, sildenafil citrates, diflucan topamax) sometimes at more affordable prices. Those who do not live in proper towns and find difficulty in getting every medicine in their town, they can avoid the inconvenience of traveling to a far away store to purchase medications by buying from online retail pharmacy or online pharmacies propecia.

Pediatric Nursing, Is it Right For You?

6:41 am by admin. Filed under: Pharmacy Courses

Pediatric nursing, or the field of nursing that relates to treating children, is a specialized and sometimes stressful field. Pediatric nursing is not for everyone. Before you decide to specialize in pediatric nursing it is important to understand some of the drawbacks to the field, as well as the benefits.

How Do I Become a Pediatric Nurse?

Pediatric nursing is not offered as a specialty in nursing school, so the training that pediatric nurses receive comes through the job. Some hospitals provide an orientation for nurses that are interested in pediatric nursing. This training includes classroom as well as clinical training. Other hospitals do all of their training on the floor, partnering the new pediatric nurse with an experienced nurse as a mentor. Regardless of which method is used at the hospital where you are employed, no one expects you to come directly from nursing school prepared to work in pediatrics without additional training.

Beyond the training that you receive from the hospital, there is specialized coursework available for nurses who are interested in becoming pediatric nurses. The American Heart Association offers a Pediatric Advanced Life Support course, and the Emergency Nurses Association offers the Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course. There is also the Society of Pediatric Nurses, a professional association for those in the field. After you have received training in pediatric nursing, you may want to obtain the Certified Pediatric Nurse certificate, which is available by exam.

Do I Want to Become a Pediatric Nurse?

While these facts address the amount of training that is involved in pediatric nursing, they do not explain the emotional toll of working as a pediatric nurse. Because pediatric nurses work solely with those under eighteen, it can be a difficult job. Working with young patients that are very ill is stressful. Not only must you deal with your patient, but the parents as well. It is a job that can be rewarding, but draining as well. For those that are interested in working with children, it helps to understand what is involved.

Some types of pediatric nursing are less stressful than others. Working in the emergency room of a pediatric hospital will provide a good deal of variety to your day, and most patients suffer from cuts, broken bones and other injuries that, while frightening, are highly treatable. Working as a pediatric nurse in the oncology unit, on the other hand, is a very difficult job. The day after day exposure to extremely ill children and distraught parents require a special person to perform this job. Another challenge that many people have with working around pediatric patients that are very ill is that the children who spend so much time in the hospital become close to their caretakers, and the reverse is true as well. A child in the oncology unit may be there for weeks at a time, or come in several times a week. This creates a strong attachment between the patient and nurse, which, if the patient does not survive, is very painful.

For those that can work as a pediatric nurse with very sick patients, the job can be very rewarding. The joys of watching a child regain his strength and get to return to school cannot be compared to any other situation, and the bond that you develop with your young patients is priceless.

To determine if you are suited to work as a pediatric nurse, it helps to be very self aware. Are you easily upset? Does seeing other people sad or frightened upset you? If so, pediatric nursing may not be your best career path. If you want to work with children, but are concerned that you may not be comfortable working around very sick children, consider a career as a pediatric nurse in the emergency room or operating room. In those places you are exposed to less illness and you are not around the same children for extended periods of time.

Make Pediatric Nursing Work for You

If you choose to become a pediatric nurse, there are a variety of steps that you can take to reduce the stress of your job. Regular exercise and healthy eating both contribute to a general sense of well being. It is also important to develop an informal support group of friends or family members that you can talk to about the stress of your day. Another way to reduce the stress involved in pediatric nursing is to rotate to other units. Spend some time in the pediatric intensive care unit, and then move to the OR. Not only does this give you an emotional break, but it provides you with a well rounded skill set.

Career Options

3:31 am by admin. Filed under: Pharmacy Jobs

It would seem as though the most appropriate time for a young person to consider career options is when they are embarking on the journey of choosing a college to attend.

For some their career options are something they have been considering for the better part of high school. They may have taken several high school level courses that will work well towards their goal of achieving admission in a certain school. Many young people dont consider many career options because they have a very clear idea of their lives path before they even enter high school.

For others career options are something they are still struggling with even as they begin the college experience. They have an idea of what interests them but trying to decide on a specific major is a daunting task. Many of these young people will explore several different career options before deciding on something that really has grabbed their interest.

Before entering college many schools have services available to the students that help them with career options. This can be in the form of a career fair where different career paths are detailed. Adults may come in to talk about their chosen career options and where those have led them. This can be a wonderful way for younger people to become familiar with the education requirements and commitment necessary to pursue a particular career choice.

Its very important for young people to be aware of all of the potential career options available to them. Many schools have guidance counselors on staff who can discuss with the child their particular aspirations. The counselor also has knowledge of the admission requirements for different studies and can advise the child on what they will need to study in high school to better their chances while in college.

Considering career options is not just for the younger set. Many established workers consider a career change at some point in their life.

Their occupation might be slowing becoming obsolete of they are losing interest in the thing they were once very passionate about. Reaching a point where you begin to think about other career options can be the turning point in ones life.

Many universities and colleges offer evening courses for students who are employed during the day. If you are considering other career options its good to know that if you do require schooling that youll have the chance to pursue that while still earning a living.

Life is remarkably less stressful if you have a job that you enjoy. Carefully considering the career options that are most appealing to you is the first step to ensuring youll go to work each day enjoying the experience.

Its never too late to consider a new career path. There are career counselors available who work with adults to develop a goal that is attainable for them. Its rewarding when you discover a new life passion and work hard to achieve that goal. Many people in their 40s, 50s and even older are heading back to school because theyve decided the career options theyve already achieved just arent enough.
