The Miraculous Healing Powers of Honey

1:40 pm by admin. Filed under: Pharmacy Jobs

The researchers enrolled 105 children, between ages 2 and 18, in their randomized, partially double-blind study. On the first night of the study, the children received no treatment. Parents then answered questions about their childrens sleep and cough, as well as the quality of their own sleep. The second night, the children were given either honey-flavored cough syrup or honey or nothing at all. Parents then reanswered the questions in the survey. Parents whose children received the honey rated their kids sleep and symptoms as better and their own sleep as improved as well.

Darker honeys have more antioxidants than lighter honeys, and we wanted the best chance to see improvements, he says, noting that lighter honeys would probably also benefit kids. At least locally [buckwheat honey] is available. I can get it here at the local supermarket says lead study author Dr. Ian Paul, a researcher at Penn State College of Medicine.

Some of the kids who took honey did experience side effects, according to the study. The parents reported slightly more hyperactivity when their kids took honey, compared with when they took cough syrup.

But its also interesting to note that this is not the first time the sweet stuff has beenlooked to as a remedy. Honey has been used since the time of the ancient Greeks and Egyptians to treat everything from wounds to insect bites. This usefulness can perhaps be attributed to the idea that an enzyme that bees add to the nectar produces hydrogen peroxide, an antibacterial agent.

I believe that recommending honey as a cough medicine has merits. It provides a safe option to using chemical based options, says Paul Doering, co-director of the Drug Information and Pharmacy Resource Center at the University of Florida., adding that honey is part of a trend of recommending more commonplace traditional remedies for ailments.

Selecting A Great Greeting Card For Every Occasion

8:51 pm by admin. Filed under: Pharmacy Assistant Jobs

Funny, but not too funny

Once you get past the standard greeting cards, they begin to be a bit more specific to certain circumstances. Many people are unsure of what type of standard card to give. To solve this dilemma they tend to opt for a humorous card because they dont want to be too personal but still want to show that they care enough to be thinking about the occasion for that person. The choice that needs to be made is; what is humorous and what goes past the line in terms of taste? In a general sense, its up to the giver but the greeting card manufacturers do have your back. The humorous cards that they manufacturer tend to be fairly specific in the greetings that they give. In other words, they try to structure the card greeting so that the recipient doesnt take the greeting the wrong way. But, given that there are so many ways to take a greeting the wrong way the giver should err on the side of being bland, rather than trying to impose their sense of humor on the recipient.

Making use of technology

Those computer chips that have found their way into toasters and electric toothbrushes have now been finding their way into greeting cards. Several years ago a standard sound could be heard coming from greeting cards to get a point across, whether it was humorous or otherwise straight forward. Todays greeting card marketing idea is to let the giver record a short message. For some this may be a bit of a stretch because you will need to have a certain amount of creativity and the willingness to hear your own voice coming back at you in front of a potential crowd. But for those that want to be cutting edge these cards do get a response from the recipient and are generally crowd pleasers at group gatherings.

Standard
Greeting card manufacturers have been at their trade for quite some time. They have the research done and know what gets your emotions moving in a particular situation. If you have a need for a happy and fun card for a happy and fun occasion, they have probably got a cartoon or heartfelt card with happy writing and a happy slogan to go with it. These cards are the core greeting cards that the pharmacy isles are made up of. If you need a basic card for a particular circumstance, its available.

It is the thought

When it comes right down to it, it is the thought that counts when you give a greeting card. All the silly sayings or sentiments in the world dont add up to the idea that you gave up your time to pick a card out. In many ways, choosing a card that stays away from the statements on the front of the card in favor of a picture and a quick note says so much more then a typical card you just sort of picked up.

Blank picture card

The greeting card that has a nice picture on the front and is blank inside is the type of card that typically gets tacked onto a bulletin board or attached to the refrigerator. If the recipient has a particular hobby or activity that they enjoy these cards are generally a winner for them. You can leave a heartfelt message inside if you choose or just a quick note, but the image on the outside of the card as it is tacked up and remembered on a nearly daily basis will have legs in the thought that you gave to picking out the card.

Viagra From Trusted Online Pharmacy

4:23 pm by admin. Filed under: Pharmacy Courses

Cheap Viagra

Anyone who has used Viagra knows that the medication is expensive; however, for some men it is necessary in order for them to have a normal sexual relationship with their spouse or partner. Since most insurance companies do not cover this medication, cost becomes an issue of great concern. Sometimes it can be a difficult decision to make, especially when weighing the purchase of Viagra against being able to pay other bills, and for those on a fixed income, this can be difficult. After all, simply because one is retired does not mean they no longer want to have a sexual relationship. They have retired from work, not from life.

What is the answer to the dilemma? Where does one find cheap Viagra? The most obvious place is the Internet where Canadian pharmacies have been selling an abundant amount of medications at prices that are sometimes half of what pharmacies charge in the United States. Certainly, the United States government and the pharmaceutical companies are not happy with this and have attempted to block the sale of Canadian sales of drugs to the United States, but now, this has not succeeded. When ordering over the Internet, and even with cheap Viagra, keep in mind that the more you order at a time, the less it is going to cost you for the long term. For example, purchasing a quantity of ten is going to be more expensive per pill than purchasing a quantity of one hundred. Certainly, that sounds like a lot of pills for something that you only take when you want to have a sexual relations, but the overall savings per pill can be as much as two dollars. Since you are also going to pay shipping, its advisable to purchase as much as you can afford so that you dont have to order as often.

For those who are hesitant about ordering Generic Viagra online, the same pharmacies that advertise on line usually have a phone number that you can use to call in your order. Of course, you can also fax it as well, especially when your first order is placed since they will more than likely need your doctor to fax the prescription. Again, to save yourself money on shipping, order as much as you can afford each time, even if it may be more than you think youll need for a month or even two.

If you really dont want to order online or deal with the Canadian pharmacies, you will find someone wholesale drug manufacturers who will sell to the public, and the cheapest way is to purchase the generic instead of name brand. In many cases, the cost saves can be as much as 50-75% when purchasing the Rx generic brand. For those who are not ordinarily prone to purchase generic brands, they contain the same ingredients as name brand but are offered at a lower price. Though this is a product used for sexual function, the generic version will still do the same job as the name brand, so there is no need for you to pay the higher price for name brand.

Risks To Avoid When Buying Medications From On-line Pharmacies

5:50 am by admin. Filed under: Pharmacy Assistant Jobs

With the increasing price of prescription medications, many consumers are finding it more difficult to afford the price of prescriptions. Due to this, many such consumers are looking for alternate ways to find affordable medications. One of these avenues are purchasing medicines online. While doubtless it is possible to save a good bit of money by purchasing medicines online, consumers should be aware of all the facts; including risks, before buying online.

Risk # 1 – Inferior Quality Medications

One risk related to purchasing medicines online, is the possibility that you may receive medication that is not good quality. Even worse, the medication you receive could possibly be contaminated.

Sometimes, the products that have been marketed on the internet have been eventually discovered to either contain no medicine at all or a different medicine than the name under which it was marketed. In other cases, medication was sold stating that it contained a dosage that it did not. For example, it might have been marketed as a 500 mg dose when in reality, it only contained 100 mg. All these possibilities pose a particular danger if you are reliant on a medication.

Risk # 2 – Interactions With Other Medications

Another danger related to purchasing medications online involves the possibility of obtaining a medication without a prescription. Many medications are regulated by prescription for several very good reasons. First, most medications have properties which may react adversely with other medicines.

If you obtain medication online without a valid prescription and are unaware of the interactions it may have with other medications you are taking or conditions you may have; this may create a serious and life threatening situation.

Risk # 3 – Medications Not Approved by The FDA

Some websites offer to sell medications that have not yet been approved by the FDA. While it can be a lengthy and time consuming process to wait for the FDA to approve a drug, the process is in place with good reason. Taking medications that have not yet been approved by the FDA may expose you to all sorts of health risks.

Risk # 4 – Illegal Foreign Drugs

Sometimes you have no way of knowing if the medications you are buying online are actually coming from foreign countries. It is illegal to import medications into the United States from foreign countries. One reason this is illegal is because medications that have been produced outside the United States have been manufactured without quality assurance guidelines. They may be unsafe and dangerous. By purchasing medications online from a foreign country you may be putting yourself at risk for health issues as well as legal problems.

These warnings are not to say you should never purchase medicines online. Some companies which are perfectly legitimate and provide safe products at a reasonable price. To make sure that you are purchasing from a legitimate company and not a company that is merely trying to run a scam by offering unsafe products, there are a few things you can do.

First, make sure that the online company you are purchasing from is a licensed pharmacy. Check with the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy at their website to find out if the company you are interested in is a member.

Avoid buying from companies that do not appear to be based in the United States and offer to sell you medications without a prescription or to write you a prescription. This is a recipe for disaster.

By taking heed of the pitfalls detailed above, you can purchase medications online with confidence and save on your medication expenses.

The Media Attempt to Stop Canadian Pharmacy Services

7:41 am by admin. Filed under: Pharmacy Jobs

Are U.S. pharmaceutical companies against your freedom of choice regarding a Canadian pharmacy that can save you money? Fact is, they have spent millions of dollars trying to end your right to obtain medication from Canadian pharmacy online services.

When you see pharmaceutical advertisements, the cost of that advertising is coming right out of your pocket when you buy your prescriptions in the U.S. They complain about research and development expenses, then turn around and spend millions in negative advertising trying to discredit Canadian pharmacy services.

Domestic Pharmaceutical Financial Reports

The large profit margins reported to shareholders of U.S. pharmaceutical companies, as well as the large advertising and marketing budgets, clearly show that those drug companies could reduce prices without sacrificing research and development. They spend fortunes on marketing schemes to urge the consumer to ask for specific costly medications. That type of advertising is not seen in Canada.

As much as three-fourths of all the drug companies’ budgets are spent in advertising and marketing. A great deal of research and development is publicly funded. So it’s no wonder more people are turning to Canadian pharmacy online services rather than paying high domestic prices.

Recent News

The American Daily reported on December 16, 2004 that “According to the Center for Responsive Politics, the drug industry paid out more than $25 million in 1999-2000 to U.S. congressional candidates.” Do you think those dollars were spent in an attempt to get congress to ban lower-cost Canadian pharmacy online services from shipping to U.S. consumers?

The L.A. Times, on August 4, 2004 published “Pharmaceutical and biotech companies have spent in excess of $1 million lobbying against numerous bills in the Legislature that would favorably affect the way Californians get their prescriptions filled.” (Eg: From a Canadian pharmacy online.)

Further, the New York Times reported on October 12, 2004 that “Astra Zeneca spent nearly $260 million on television and other mass-media advertising aimed at Nexium users last year. Is that why Nexium (or any advertised medication for that matter) is so expensive? That exact same medication is at least 30% less from a Canadian pharmacy!

Do They Have Your Best Interests at Heart?

Are the pharmaceutical giants really trying to discredit Canada pharmacy services and force legislation to halt medication shipments to U.S. consumers, making the U.S. consumer pay more for EXACTLY the same medicine? Thats for you to decide.

Defend your right to obtain prescription medication from a Canadian pharmacy online service by selecting carefully who you vote for in the next election. Don’t fall for expensive advertising, designed to urge you to buy medication you may not need at all.

Properly prescribed pharmaceuticals can save your life, but it can also drive you into the poor house if your purchases are influenced by advertising.

A reputable Canada pharmacy can save you 30% 50% or more depending on the specific medication, and where you buy your prescriptions from. Its worth your time to investigate. The best place to start is by getting a price quote to give you an idea of the possibilities.

Rising Medical Cost Solution is Online Pharmacy

5:26 am by admin. Filed under: Pharmacy Assistant Jobs

Let us discuss about the present medical system in USA. Being ill, one must see a doctor for consultation after paying some fees. Then he will rush to the Medicine shops for medicine, which is the remedial treatment of his disease. If the disease is complicated that warrants stay at hospital and /or operation, he will be admitted to a hospital and can go home after recovery only after paying the bills of the hospital. In every case the bill is fat and some times go beyond the reach of ones capacity. People like me have studied and raised voice against such system.

Cost of medical treatment is enormous in America, thanks to the systems developed here. There is an unholy nexus between the Insurance companies, doctors and medical Service providers, which has sky rocketed the medical treatment cost. The situation is so much grave that we have once read that 25% of Americans have no health insurance coverage.

Because maintaining the insurance is also a high cost affair and may be beyond the reach of common Americans so much trapped with Credit Card Bills, rising unemployment or under employment or other problems.

The high cost of medicine has led to the development of the On line Pharmacies. Every internet site is now flooded with advertisements of them trumpeting that they are the best and reliable.

We are not very sure about the authenticity of these Online drugs.

The On line pharmacies sell medicines without doctors prescription, more over, they offer Online Prescriptions recommending medicines, if any person asks for a particular disease.

This probably helps the person get back the cost of medicines from the Insurance companies. Some times insurance companies refuse to pay the cost of such types of medicines.

The tussle is still on. May be one day federal rule will be enacted so that insurance companies may be forced to pay the online medicine bills to the benefits of common Americans.
The purchasing of medicines from a Discount Pharmacy is very common in the country, as you will get generic drugs at far low price than the Branded ones. So this system is here to stay.

I cannot understand how a Discount Pharmacy can supply medicines with discount! Are they bulk purchase the unpackaged medicines from the manufacturers and package them in their workshop and sell as the generic drug of the branded ones?

In one article I have read that people had to go to either Canada or Mexico to purchase branded drugs at cheap rate. Funny thing is that the medicine is manufactured in America, but cannot be sold at America with affordable price to common citizens, while importers in foreign countries can sale the drug with reduced price. So people residing near the border can cross the border and purchase it at reduced price! Such is the clutch of the Insurance companies in the USA.

So long as this unholy nexus between the insurance companies, health service providers and doctors will last, On line Pharmacy will remain, in spite of propaganda against them.

Because they are the only way to get the right medicines at right moment with or without a prescription with less price which common man can afford.

I am not against the Medical Insurance companies. It is true if we share of risks of high cost of medical treatment among ourselves, nothing is better than this. But it does not mean, that cost of the medical treatment should be jacked up to give the business to the insurance companies so that people are compelled to take the coverage that too also with high premium.

I think Government can do some thing in this respect. People below certain income level can be provided with free treatment or treatment with reduced cost if he is not properly covered under proper medical insurance. My article is getting lengthier. I will raise it again if opportunity comes.

Seniors Pay High Price for Gap in Benefits Coverage

2:50 pm by admin. Filed under: Pharmacy Jobs

Since the Medicare Part D drug benefit was unveiled, it has proven to be even more confusing and inefficient than its critics predicted. Even seniors who have been able to register for the program must still struggle with a $3,000 gap in benefits coverage and a hefty monthly premium.

Already the government has had to change the program: The Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services reversed an earlier decision prohibiting new Medicare prescription drug plan recipients from participating in free or subsidized drug programs sponsored by pharmaceutical manufacturers.

But we can’t stop there. The reversal fails to count the full value of these prescriptions toward seniors’ $3,000 obligation, an expense that could put many in the poorhouse.

The Bush administration claims that its new benefit is a good deal for people who are not eligible for Medicaid. Yet most individuals will pay not only a $250 deductible, but also 25 percent co-insurance on the next $2,000 in covered drug costs. And add roughly $32 a month per person for a monthly premium.

In addition, the new Medicare plan requires each senior to cover 100 percent of the costs over $2,000 until catastrophic coverage kicks in at $5,100.

We can and must close the holes that may ruin seniors’ fiscal health as they try to preserve their physical health.

Private companies are already taking action. A group of pharmaceutical companies announced a plan called “Bridge Rx,” which will help seniors trapped in the $3,000 hole afford their medications. Seniors will get drug discounts of at least 50 percent in exchange for a 15 percent co-pay.

Washington should also act by letting those who qualify for subsidized pharmaceutical manufacturer programs like Bridge Rx – but who concurrently pay a monthly Part D premium – count the full value of their medications’ formulary price toward the $3,000 gap.

The purpose of the Medicare prescription drug program was to help seniors, not generate revenue for insurers and pharmacy benefit managers. It’s time to deliver on the promises that were made.

The Pros and Cons of Travel Nursing

11:58 am by admin. Filed under: Pharmacy Courses

Travel nursing is an attractive arrangement for many nurses. Assignments typically last thirteen weeks and the nurse is often given the option of renewing at the end of each assignment. For the outgoing nurse, who makes friends easily and likes change, travel nursing can be a wonderful career. Some nursing specialties are in greater demand than others, and for those with critical care, emergency room, intensive care unit, operating room, neonatal or labor and delivery experience, a travel nursing job should be easy to find. While travel nursing used to comprise a niche field within the nursing industry, it has become a mainstream career choice for many nurses.

The Pros of Travel Nursing

There are many benefits to travel nursing, the first of which is, of course, the travel. Travelers are able to work anywhere in the country, and, if they find an area not to their liking, they know the assignment will be over soon. If they fall in love with the hospital or the area of the country, they can ask to have their contract renewed. Another pro of travel nursing is the pay. While nurses are in demand everywhere, tightening of hospital budgets have left many staff nurse salaries stagnant. Travel nurses typically earn 20% more than a traditionally employed nurse in the same specialty.

Another benefit of travel nursing is the fact that, when travel nursing, you are not drawn into the politics that a full or part time nurse would encounter. This includes everything from dueling supervisors to mandatory in-service meetings. While you will certainly make friends while on assignment, you will normally work your shift, maybe some overtime, and then head home. The lack of politics in these positions is a big draw for many nurses.

The flexibility of the travel nursing schedule is another benefit. Many travel nurses routinely take a week or two, or even a month off, between assignments. The higher pay rate allows the travel nurse this flexibility, and, by letting his or her agency know when they are available, he or she will have a position waiting after their break.

The Cons of Travel Nursing

Of course, if travel nursing were perfect, everyone would do it. There are drawbacks to travel nursing, and it is not for everyone. Travel nurses may not receive all of the benefits of a full time employee. It is important to read your contract carefully, so that you understand exactly what to expect. While many travel nurses do not receive paid time off, some do, and it can be negotiated into your contract. Health insurance is typically offered, but it will likely be more expensive than what is offered to full and part time staff at the hospital.

Some of the cons of travel nursing are apparent, and if they do not appeal to you, then travel nursing may not be a good choice for you. Travel nursing means that you will pack up your scrubs and move often, as often as every 13 weeks. While some people relish these frequent changes, others find it stressful. Another point to consider is that as reassuring as it is to know that you are not locked into a long term contract if the situation is less than ideal, you are also not guaranteed employment past your initial assignment. Frequent moves can be stressful for other reasons as well. With each new job, the hospital may require you to pass a competency exam or they can terminate your employment, for those who do not test well, this can be very stressful. There will be a new orientation with each new assignment as well.

Another problem that many travel nurses encounter is passive or even open hostilities toward travelers from the staff. Because it is widely known that travel nurses receive a higher pay rate and more flexibility than staff nurses, there is often resentment among the other nurses. Also, the management may feel that the travel nurse should pull more of the unattractive assignments, since there is no concern of retention with the traveler. These two factors can ruin a travel nursing experience.

Another negative aspect of travel nursing, and the one that can be most detrimental to the nurse in the long run, is the lack of career advancement. Most travel nurse contracts specifically forbid the nurse from holding any type of supervisory role. While this may be appealing to the traveler initially, once he or she is ready to head into more traditional work, their lack of supervisor experience can limit job opportunities.

Travel nursing can be a wonderful experience if your temperament is suited for the work. Take the time to find a recruiter or agency that you feel comfortable with, and if you find an assignment that you enjoy, don’t feel shy about asking for a contract renewal.

Pharmacy Technician Jobs Are Increasing With Changing Scenarios

7:16 am by admin. Filed under: Pharmacy Assistant Jobs

Pharmacy technicians are the front-end persons you see at pharmacies. It is they who actually do the routine work of dispensing medicines – receiving prescriptions, checking for their completeness, retrieving the medication, counting, weighing or otherwise measuring it, preparing the prescription labels, selecting suitable container and labeling it. The filled prescription is then priced and filed, and checked by a pharmacist before being given to the patient.

In effect, pharmacy technician jobs involve helping the pharmacists with the routine tasks of filling prescriptions. The job requires training and certification to understand prescriptions, check their accuracy and completeness, select the right medicines and fill the order attending to all the correct formalities. Technicians might receive requests from patients or directly from doctors. They must be able to decipher doctors’ handwriting and check that the prescription makes sense.

Pharmacy technician jobs are thus more than merely filling tablets and capsules into packets. Technicians might even be required to mix the medication. Where they have any doubts or questions, they must refer these to the pharmacist. That means they must know when and how to ask the right questions!

Other Technical Pharmacy Routines

In addition to filling prescriptions, drug dispensing also involves things like:

  • Creating and maintaining patient profiles
  • Preparing insurance claim forms
  • Reading patient charts at hospitals, preparing and delivering the medicines to the patients (after verification by a pharmacist)
  • Organizing the medication delivery to avoid mistakes (by assembling a 24 hour supply of medicines for each patient, packaging and labeling each dose separately in the patient’s medicine cabinet), and getting the packages checked by the pharmacist

It is typically the pharmacy technician’s job to stock the prescription and over-the-counter drugs in the pharmacy shelves, and to take inventory periodically. Pharmacy aides will help the technician in these and other routines such as keeping accounts, answering phones and handling money.

Becoming a Pharmacy Technician

As would be clear from the above, the pharmacy technician job require less drug-related knowledge than is needed for a pharmacist but much more knowledge than what a layperson has.

You have to become a certified pharmacy technician by passing an exam to be eligible for a pharmacy technician job. Technician training gives the trainees the skills and knowledge needed to perform the kind of work discussed above.

After completing training, you would typically have to get a state license to work as pharmacy technician. Pharmacy technicians have also to attend specified hours of continuing education through contact classes to be eligible for re-certification every two years.

Pharmacy Technician Job Prospects

A growing and older population, who typically use more medication, means that there will be an increasing demand for pharmacy technicians. New drug discoveries, for treating more and more conditions, also mean greater need for trained technicians able to fill prescriptions correctly.

Wherever possible, employers will prefer to employ the less expensive pharmacy technician than a highly trained (and consequently expensive) pharmacist.

Pharmacy technician jobs are estimated to grow faster than most categories of jobs.
