British Asians don’t like talking about diabetes, according to new survey

10:10 am by Admin 4. Filed under: Apothecary Jobs

Leading charity Diabetes UK has carried out a new survey which reveals that more than 40% of UK diabetics with roots in the Indian sub-continent are suffering in silence and not telling anyone about their condition. This is putting their health at increased risk and leaving them feeling miserable.

Over 3,700 people with diabetes were surveyed by the charity. They found that 41% of Asian people had either kept their diabetes secret in the past or were continuing to do so. Amongst white people, the figure was 33%, which is also worryingly high.

Levels of diabetes in the UK’s Asian population are significantly higher than the national average, and South Asian people are 6 times as likely to be diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes compared with white people.

46% of Asians who had been secretive about their condition said their reticence had made the situation worse, compared with 27% of white people. 47% of Asians said they had suffered physically or emotionally as a result, compared with 22% of white people.

Nearly 30% of Asians said the reason for keeping their diabetes secret was a desire not to be seen as different, whilst 19% reported a fear of discrimination or bullying. 24% said they were worried about how their professional life would be affected, and 21% simply cited embarrassment.

67% of Asians reported not telling friends about their diabetes, and 50% had kept their family in the dark. For white people, the figures were 55% and 19% respectively.

A large number of respondents said that they skipped insulin injections or postponed testing their blood glucose levels to avoid being noticed. This poor diabetes management is putting them at increased risk of serious complications ranging from heart disease to blindness.

It is hoped that the survey will help spread awareness of the issue among the Asian population, reducing the likelihood of people experiencing discrimination or prejudice, and ultimately helping them to manage their condition effectively.

There are 2.8 million people currently diagnosed with diabetes in the UK.

Understanding The Cost Of Prescription Drugs

11:12 am by admin. Filed under: Apothecary Jobs

The Internet has revolutionized a consumer’s ability to research personal health issues and independently discover the available options of finding more affordable ways of obtaining his or her medications.

For the millions of Americans who have prescription drug plans as part of their health insurance, the actual cost of medications is somewhat obscured by the co-payment–usually a nominal fee compared to the actual cost of the drug.

But for the millions of Americans who don’t have access to prescription coverage, who must pay for their medications out of pocket, there is a crucial piece of knowledge that can save them a lot of money: The cost of prescription drugs varies from pharmacy to pharmacy. And in many cases, Internet-based pharmacies can offer even lower costs. For example, a recent survey showed that Walgreens was selling Plavix (75 mg, 90 tablets) for $405.09. SmartChoiceDrugstore.com sold the exact same drug and quantity for $353.49.

According to data collected by SmartChoice, Americans pay more for their prescription drugs than people in other countries. The reason is that pharmaceutical manufacturers sell at much higher prices to U.S. wholesale companies because they have no restrictions on pricing. Higher costs are also attributed to pharmaceutical companies spending hundreds of millions of dollars each year in sales and marketing people to push their medications on the U.S. public and doctors who prescribe the medications.

Just like online retailers from whom you’d buy books, appliances or even a car, Internet pharmacies are able to offer lower prices because of lower overhead. With no storefront (and accordant costs) to maintain, there’s less of a markup on the merchandise. The medication you receive from Internet pharmacies such as SmartChoice is identical to the medicines found at a neighborhood or chain drugstore. The only difference is what you pay. And if you take several different medications, the savings can be substantial.

At SmartChoiceDrugstore.com, each and every order is filled by a registered and licensed pharmacist. Like any U.S. pharmacy, SmartChoiceDrugstore.com undergoes rigorous governmental inspections regularly. The site is a full-service pharmacy that has access to all medications that any other pharmacy would have. And like traditional pharmacies, there are policies and procedures in place to validate prescriptions.

Tips On Advancing Your Career

7:38 pm by admin. Filed under: Apothecary Jobs

Your career should essentially be in your control. In an ideal world, you would progress within your chosen company for doing your job well and doing it on time. However, whether you are looking for a deserved pay rise or you want promotion you may find that you are often overlooked in preference for employees that you believe are not as accomplished as you are. Theres no use in performing well, if the right people dont hear about it.

Networking within the company you work for may not seem like the ideal way to spend your time, however, it will ensure that your face fits. Never be afraid to put your best foot forwards and sing your own praises if necessary. When you do something noteworthy let your managers and, if necessary, their managers know. If you come up with an idea that will potentially make or save money then tell the right people about it.

Your career is important and only by taking control of its progression can you be sure it will go the way you want it to. Setting goals is a major part of this aim. With short, medium and long-term goals you will be able to micro manage every aspect of your career. Your short-term goals should be geared towards achieving your medium-term goals, which in turn should help you achieve your goals.

Write down your goals and keep track of how you are doing. Always make sure that they are achievable but rewarding. If your goals are too easy and you can reach them with little or no effort, then there is no real point. Alternatively, if your goals are too difficult you will quickly become disheartened and give up. Life can throw the occasional obstacle or unexpected gift your way and so it will be necessary from time to time to re-evaluate your position. Try to only change your short-term goals if you are worse than expected and your medium term goals if better than you had hoped.

The Perfect Career for Your Personality

2:12 pm by admin. Filed under: Apothecary Jobs

Choosing a career path is one of the most important decisions youll ever makebut how do you decide what is right for you? You may take a career path that uses the skills you have or the education youve gotten. You may even choose a career based on what you think you should dobecause of what your parents or teachers have told you is right for you. But you may not know that you are naturally more suited for some careers than for others. Why? Each of us has an individual personality type that affects how much well like a job.

Think, for instance, about a carpenter versus a counselor. A carpenter works with concrete objects, according to specified procedures, and has a tangible result. A counselor works with people and their feelings; she has to judge success and the results of her work based on abstract concepts. Which of these sounds more appealing to you? Do you have a strong preference for one or the other?

Now, imagine if you had to make your less-preferred choice your career, and you will get an idea of the impact that your personality has on your job satisfaction. There is quite a bit of variation in how people think and process information, what they see as important, and how they make decisions. All of this variation can affect how happy or unhappy someone is in a work environment. Each one of us has different criteria for what a great job is, and to find your own perfect career, it is crucial to identify what is important to you.

The first step is to figure out your personality type. The most common personality test used for career counseling is called the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. This personality test measures four facets of personality:

Extroverted/IntrovertedDo you get your energy from being with people, or being alone?
Sensing/IntuitionDo you see whats actual, or whats possible?
Thinking/FeelingDo you make decisions with your head or your heart?
Judging/PerceivingDo you like to make decisions, or keep your options open?

There are many ways to find out what your personality type is. Some people prefer to read about the types and choose what seems to fit best. There are also free quizzes on the internet based on the principles of the Myers-Briggs that can give you an idea of where you may fit.

However, if you are serious about finding out what type you are, the most reliable and accurate method is to take the official Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. This is a scientifically validated instrument that will identify where you fall in each of the categories. This assessment can only be administered by someone trained in its application, and must include a consultation with a trained coach or consultant according to its licensing guidelines. You can take the personality tests through a career counselor in your area, or online. If you take it online, you will typically get the results the same day, and you can usually request a special report that will go into detail about what is important to look for in a career.

Once you have figured out your personality type, you will want to look at the careers you are considering and evaluate whether they fit whats important to you. Some questions to ask yourself:

How much time will I spend interacting with people? Will it be too much/too little?
To what extent will I be expected to follow standard procedures? Will I feel restricted by too much structure? Will I feel frustrated by too little?
Will this job require me to use logic and reason things out? Will it require me to use compassion and consider how decisions will make people feel? Am I comfortable with the extent to which I will have to act based on thinking or feeling?
How much latitude will this job give me to make my own schedule? Is it too little? Too much?

Its important to be realistic about what a job entails, and to ask as many questions as possible about prospective jobs so that you can evaluate how well theyll fit you. As you learn more about yourself, you will become more able to judge which jobs will bring you satisfaction.

The Importance of Bedside Manner in Nursing

4:42 pm by admin. Filed under: Apothecary Jobs

The quality of the care you provide to your patients is important for them in so many ways. Of course you need to maintain a certain level of professionalism with patients, visitors, and the medical professionals you work with. But overlooking the importance of bedside manner in nursing reduces the quality of the care that you have taken an oath to provide to the patients under your care.

Doctors are often more focused on the conditions and symptoms that patients are suffering from and finding the appropriate course of treatment for those symptoms and conditions. Due to this situation, their genuine concern for patents is not always conveyed. This can result in patients not feeling as if they can or should discuss symptoms they are experiencing, possible questions they have, and the fears they are keeping to themselves with the doctor. Many people feel more comfortable sharing this information with a nurse who has a friendly bedside manner. Therefore it is vital that you remember the importance of having a good, friendly bedside manner. You may often be the only bridge between the doctors getting the information needed to treat the patient better, and a patient understanding that not fully disclosing these things can seriously affect the outcome of their treatment.

For patients suffering from serious illnesses or injuries, the level of bedside manner provided by the nursing professionals caring for them, often takes on a greater significance. Your beside manner is integral to the recovery process of your patients. Think about it from the standpoint of the patient. Coping with an illness or injury and the treatment they must undergo for recovery is a time filled with fear and stress. They may also be dealing with symptoms such as pain, shock, confusion, nausea, light headedness, stiffness, lessened or complete loss of mobility, and sleep and appetite changes. The level of fear and stress is often heightened when a patient is hospitalized for treatment. The unfamiliar settings of a hospital can be very distressing to patients who are stressed because they are sick, injured, or having surgery.

Treatments can be uncomfortable or even painful. Patients may perceive their conditions to be worse than they are and their prognosis dismal, and may keep these feelings to themselves. Patients can easily become overwhelmed by the fear and stress they are feeling and not hear or understand what the doctor is telling them about their condition, the recommended treatment, and the risks involved. This will increase a patient’s level of fear and stress which can worsen their condition and make it harder to treat them successfully. Family and friends may also increase a patient’s level of fear and stress. They are themselves confused and scared because their loved one is ill or injured. Without meaning to, they may transfer their fears, confusion, and stress onto the patient whose body is already struggling under the weight of a medical condition. In these situations, the importance of bedside manner in nursing cannot be overstated. Displaying a calm, friendly demeanor to patients and their families can reassure them and reduce their fears and stress.

Some people don’t have family or friends who can visit them while they are in the hospital. This can lead to a patient feeling lonely, sad, and isolated or cut off from the people and surroundings they know and their normal lives. This can cause appetitive and sleep difficulties and even reduce the effectiveness of pain medications for the patient feeling as if they are all alone. Taking the time to talk to patients and asking them questions helps them to feel that they are not alone. This also conveys to them that you care not just about doing your job to the best of your ability: but also about them. Knowing that someone cares can very often help further the recovery process even when present treatments do not seem to be working, or working fast enough.

But even when the condition is a terminal illness or disease such as Cancer and the prognosis is not a positive one, bedside manner is important for helping those patients to be as comfortable and at peace as possible. Your bedside manner will also mean a great deal to the family members who must come to grips with seeing a loved one so seriously ill and knowing the end is drawing near. This is probably the hardest part of nursing. But there is nothing nobler than ensuring that a person is given dignity, comfort, respect, and compassionate care as they transition away from this life.

Your bedside manner is important to the patients you care for in so many ways as a nursing professional. Never underestimate the power of a good bedside manner. Take steps so you do not forsake the oath you have taken to provide quality care to your patients. Remember the importance of bedside manner in nursing.

Starting Your Career In Information Technology – Or Accelerating Your

Starting Your Career In Information Technology – Or Accelerating Your Current One !

Many newcomers to the IT field are surprised when they find out it’s tougher to get that first job than they thought it would be. I know exactly what that’s like. I’ve had a great career in IT and I’d recommend it to anyone, but I had a tough time breaking in as well. I’d like to share some tips with you on how to get started on what can be a financially rewarding and personally satisfying career in Information Technology.

School systems are a great place to start. A lot of newcomers forget that schools around the world need IT personnel to support school networks, printers, etc. I began my career with a public school system and it was the best move I could ever have made. If you land such a job, you’ll be doing everything from unjamming printers to supporting the school’s Local Area Network (LAN). You get experience that is going to look great on your resume – you’ll have a big advantage over those whose job responsibilities are narrower. You won’t make a lot of money, but what you need at the beginning of your career is experience, not money. Which brings me to my second point ….

Don’t chase the dollars. I know, I know. We all like money, and besides, maybe you’ve got some bills to pay! I’m not suggesting you work for free, but the question you must ask yourself when starting your IT career is this: “What do I want my resume to look like in three years?” The money will be there – if your resume shows a broad range of experience. That’s what you need to get when you’re considering your first job. Use your long-term vision to decide what kind of IT job you want to be in three years from now, and get a job that will give you the necessary experience.

Get certified. You have entered a field where you are always learning – or at least, you better be! If you stand still and stop learning, your skills will become obsolete and your IT career will stall. Start adding certifications to your resume to go along with your experience. Look into programs that deal primarily with PCs, such as A+, and then look at more advanced certifications such as the MCSE and the CCNA. When you are certified in all three major networking areas (hardware, server OS, and routers), you are a “triple threat”! Combine that with some experience and you will end up with a very impressive resume.

Network. Networking has two different meanings in IT, and you know the first one. But besides computer networking, there’s human networking. Get out there and meet people. Your local newspaper has a business section -check it for IT group meetings. The more you’re seen, the more chance you have of being remembered. It’s a small world, and IT is a small world as well. Meet the business leaders of your area as well. It is amazing how a quick face-to-face meeting or conversation can lead to great things down the road.

Having a successful IT career isn’t just about knowing a lot about computers and networks. It’s knowing the right way to get started, getting the right combination of experience and certifications, and meeting people. I know from experience that it’s tough to get started. I also know from experience that no career field rewards individual drive like IT does. So get started today – and if you feel your IT career is stalled, take a step back, list the reasons why this has happened, and then do something about it!

Seven ways to Reduce Prescription Costs

1. There is a group called the Medicine Program that can help you find Pharmacies that participate in their program. Some of the discounts are significnt. Contact them to see if you fit in the program.

P.O.Box 1089, Poplar Bluff MO 63902-1089 Phone: 866.694.3893 Fax: 573.778.1420 help@themedicineprogram.com themedicineprogram.com

2. If you are a veteran, you should check to see what has changed. What was not available before could be available to you now.

3. Contact “medcaresolutions.net” If you qualify for the free prescription programs, they will fill out your monthly paperwork for a small fee.

4. Ask your Doctor for samples. Sometimes they have extras they can give away.

5. Ask your Doctor if any patients have changed meds lately or if someone has passed away. Many times unused pills will be donated so they don’t go to waste.

6. When traveling, take a copy of your prescriptions with you. A Canadian Doctor will need to see it to be able to write a prescription for you. You must have a current Canadian prescription to be able to buy from a Canadian Pharmacy.

In Mexico most medications are over the counter, but there are some that require a written prescription. So just in case it is needed, bring a copy of your prescriptions with you.

7. Have your medications delivered by mail from Canada. Canadian medications are identical to American medications, the savings can be substantial and there are a number of generics there that are not available State side. You can choose quick delivery (3 – 5 days) or somewhat slower delivery (10 – 14 days)

Canadian Prescription delivery has grown very popular over the last few years and there are many reliable services available
